How To Quit Your Job

How can I quit my job? I hear this question all the time – especially from friends in Canada. The recession has put a lot of pressure on those that remain in the work force and the work that was done by many before is now to be done by just a few. Burn-Out syndrome, stress, and all the bad stuff that comes with it – it is all over the place. So, people are searching for ways out. I talked to friends up in Canada and in some areas things are just bad.

How to quit your jobSo, how can you quit your job when you live in Canada? Well, the answer is almost the same – no matter if you live in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, or Montreal. There are many ways to do so, but now every job quitting option is stable or solid enough. Let’s just cover some of the basics. Unless you are wealthy or have other sources of income, it is a little risky to just quit your job. If you live in Toronto or Vancouver you know how expensive life can be. Rents are not cheap and many people will never have enough money to consider buying a house.

So, ideally you would want to build up a second stream of income before you walk into your manager’s office to quit your job. Building up a second stream of income could mean getting a second job, buying a business, starting a new business, or to find one of those work from home offers. Working from home is actually quite popular because it allows people to leave the expensive city and to move into the cheaper, surburban areas or even completely away from the big city. As an example, friends of mine were financially were fortunate and retired in their late 40’s. They bought some ocean property in the Canadian North-East where they spend their summers. During Winter time they go down south into the United States where Winter is not as brutal.

This could be you with the right setup. Other friends followed their own path and well, they still have a very unsatisfying 9-5 job. Nothing wrong with having a job, but I think it is important that work is not just a job. Most people have to work 40-45 years before they retire and that is a long time. Why not have some fun along the way? Life in Vancouver can be great with enough money in your pocket – Vancouver is a great city to live in, especially if you have some money to play with.

My recommendation to get started working on your future is to look for a work at home job that will eventually allow you to quit your job. Work at home is great because you can come home from work, take a break and then work for yourself and slowly (or fast if you are willing to put in extra hours) build up a second stream of income. If you put in the appropriate amount of work and effort, success will come. People who fail or never succeed with this, are usually the ones that think this can be done without much work. Well, think again – even though Canada has a solid social security system, but this will still not replace hard work.

Are there some work at home business models that work better or not so good? You bet there. Stay away from the main hype. Use common sense when looking at those different options. I have seen people having access working with Paul Myers as well picking a work at home offer from here which allowed many people to quit their job. It is important to not give up. Remember, that when Edison invented the light bulb he had tried many thousand times before finding that one combination that worked. Do not jump from work at home model to work at home model. Stick with something and give it a fair shot before trying something else.
